In South Tyrol, autumn is all about Törggelen, the much-loved period of time when the locals roast chestnuts and drink the new sweet wine. This custom dates back to the ancient tradition of tasting the new season’s wine and enjoying the company of good friends in the cellar. The word ‘Törggelen’ derives from Torggl, or wine press. If you stay at our hotel in Feldthurns during fall, a guided Törggelen Hike is an absolute must. We’ll lead you through the autumnal landscape; then, you’ll enjoy a snack of roasted chestnuts at a wine tavern, or Buschenschank.
